Alanis Obomsawin, one of the most prolific and respected figures in the documentary genre, will present an extensive retrospective of twelve of her films, as well as a film lecture.
Obomsawin was a musician and artist before establishing a 55-year career as a filmmaker. A member of the Abenaki tribe, one of Canada’s indigenous nations, she has primarily focused on the culture and issues of indigenous peoples in North America. Her documentaries, produced under the National Film Board (NFB) since the 1970s, also reflect the common experiences of minorities around the world.
