ABD, dünya nüfusunun %5'ini oluşturmasına rağmen, dünya mahkûmlarının %25’ini barındırıyor. Sadece New York eyaletinde yetmiş tane hapishane var. Bunların birçoğu eyaletin ücra köşelerinde bulunuyor. Her hafta sonu çoğu zenci ve Latino kökenli yaklaşık sekiz yüz kadın ve çocuk bu hapishanelerdeki yakınlarını ziyaret etmek için toplam yirmi dört saat süren bir otobüs yolculuğuna çıkıyor. Ziyaretçiler bu yolculuğu, on senedir her hafta sonu kocasını ziyaret eden ve hapishane otobüsünün koordinatörü olan Denise'in gözünden anlatan bir belgesel. Bir zamanlar kendisi de bir “ziyaretçi” olan yönetmen, hayatları hapis ile özgür yaşam arasında kalmış bu alt kültürün karanlık yüzüne ışık tutuyor.

The United States constituting 5% of the world population, houses 25% of the world’s inmates. Only in New York State there are 70 prisons and most of them are located in remote towns and villages. Every weekednd about 800 women and children, mostly African Americans and Latinos, travel for long hours to visit their loved ones. The whole trip usually lasts for 24 hours. “Visitors” follows the coordinator of one of the prison buses, Denise, who has been visiting her husband for 10 years every weekend. The director – a former visitor herself – reflects on the struggle of this unique culture living at the intersection of confinement and the free world.
